About MWM
MWM has a remarkable 150-year tradition, rooted in innovation. It all began in 1871 when automobile pioneer Carl Benz founded the "Mechanische Werkstätte" in Mannheim, marking the start of MWM and the gas engine era. Over the decades, MWM's engineers have relentlessly driven innovation, making it a leading brand in gas engines and gensets.
As of today, MWM employs around 1,400 professionals across its Mannheim plant and other locations, consistently improving system output, efficiency, and reliability, delivering worldwide.
In 2021, MWM celebrated its 150th anniversary, commemorating key milestones in its history with projects and campaigns. Additionally, the company marked its 100th brand anniversary in 2022, unveiling an anniversary website featuring historical highlights, personal anecdotes, and quizzes.
The traditional brand originated in 1922 when Benz & Cie. sold its Stationary Engine Building department. Following the spin-off agreement, the stationary engine production became independent on April 22, 1922, operating as "Motoren-Werke Mannheim A.-G. vorm. Benz, Abt. stationärer Motorenbau." A year later, on January 22, 1923, the company applied for the first official MWM trademark. This heritage of excellence and progress continues to define MWM's position as a prominent player in the industry.
